Character Assassination on Internet Message Boards

A person was using anonymous Internet message boards to post false allegations about a company’s performance and customer service. During the course of its investigation, Binary Defense uncovered additional aliases being used by the same person. Binary Defense determined that a competitor was directly linked to the anonymous messages.

Hostile Website

A consumer products company suspected that a competitor was responsible for a website highly critical of one of the company’s core products. Binary Defense determined that the website was being heavily promoted on numerous product-related discussion forums by a series of somewhat similar aliases. Binary Defense determined the identity of the individual behind the website and its promotions. Armed with the knowledge that the site’s creator was actually a dissatisfied customer, the company was able to resolve the customer’s concerns while avoiding unnecessary and costly litigation with its competitor.

Cheating Spouse

A woman was concerned that her husband was having an affair and communicating with the woman online. Binary Defense identified all known Internet aliases used by the husband and conducted an online investigation into his actions. This led to the identification of several unknown aliases used by the husband. These aliases were linked to online singles sites and casual sex message boards.

Cyber Threats

A teenager was receiving death threats via instant message, email, and social networking sites. The parents were concerned with the graphic nature of the threats. Binary Defense conducted an investigation into the threat sources and worked with local law enforcement to obtain records that identified the person as a former girlfriend of the teenager.
